Collaboration between researchers and protected area managers - Empirical insights

Isabelle Arpin, Key note

We will present the results of a series of quantitative and qualitative studies recently conducted in France and at the alpine scale about the relationships between researchers and protected area (PA) managers. We will highlight the fact that establishing, maintaining and developing these relationships require much effort and can take a variety of forms (e.g. creation of a scientific council, design of joint research projects involving researchers and PA managers, hiring or hosting of researchers in PAs, scientific training of PA managers) entailing specific difficulties and benefits.
