Identification of animal-vehicle collisions hotspots in South Tyrol: preliminary analysis and further steps

Filippo Favilli, Key note

The Autonomous Province of South Tyrol, norther Italy, reports about 760 animal-vehicle collisions (AVC) records per year involving different wildlife species. The analyses of spatial and temporal patterns of AVCs using Kernel density analysis (KDE+) revealed several collision hotspots, where mitigation and prevention infrastructures are absent or just partially used. AVC in South Tyrol is an increasing issue, protected areas, as wildlife core areas, and policy makers need to consider it in order to involve citizens and develop specific mitigation and prevention approaches.
