Ecological Connectivity and its contribution to a Green Economy

Yann Kohler, ALPARC - Alpine Network of Protected Areas, Chambery (FR)

Measures to enhance ecological connectivity affect the quality of biodiversity and ecosystem services (ES), and thus also society and the regional economy. The question is, if these measures even support a green economy, in which natural resources are used efficiently, pollution is reduced, biodiversity loss is prevented, economy is socially inclusive, and at the same time leads to a resilient economic growth. Economic impacts of ecological measures are hardly quantifiable, but impact chains can establish links between ecological measures and regional economy over use and non-use values of ES.
