Temporal and spatial variability of bedrock, debris and glaciers in the Austrian Alps since the Alpine Last Glacial Maximum and its relevance for ecological research

Gerhard Lieb, University of Graz (AT)

In the Hohe Tauern National Park long-term monitoring of ecosystem changes has started in 2017. Part of this program is the long-term monitoring of abiotic processes in order to better understand the effects of climate change. Good data on climate, hydrology and glacier variations are already available. However, there is a lack of information on permafrost and geomorphodynamics. This is way a concept of permafrost monitoring at selected sites and a concept for observing mass movement processes is presented. Bringing all this information together represents an innovative and comprehensive monitoring approach.
