The study to be presented addresses the importance of sound ecological information about the forest site and stand conditions as well as tree species composition for conservation management. The project was initiated by Nationalpark Hohe Tauern Salzburg in 2014. A terrestrial sampling survey of 160 plots with 30 monitoring plots was established on 13.800 ha woodland. These data serve for assessing the conservation status of the habitats for conservation management issues as well as for further research activities in the context of forest ecosystem dynamics under climate change, the provision of ecosystem services and maintenance of biodiversity.
