Biodiversity monitoring in the NW Italian Alps: state and expected changes

Ramona Viterbi, Gran Paradiso National Park, Turin (IT)

Three parks in NW Italian Alps shared a protocol to determine factors influencing biodiversity. Twelve altitudinal transects were defined and 5 taxa sampled. This protocol has been carried every five years (2006-2008, 2012-2013) and will be maintained over time. Our results showed that invertebrates are mainly influenced by altitude and microclimate. Species distribution models allowed to estimate the effects of a moderate temperature increase, predicting small differences. Observed changes between the first two sampling sessions, allowed to verify predictions and identify vulnerabilities.
