Biodiversity Assessment in Gesäuse National Park

Identification and monitoring of species and species richness is a key to national park's management. It is a vital necessity when it comes to implementation of strategies, policies and actions. After 15 years of comprehensive research efforts the Biodiversity Database of Gesäuse National Park currently holds more than 155,000 records and 8474 taxa in an area of 112 km². This includes several taxa having their locus typicus in the area or being endemic to the region. NP hosts a significant number of endangered and/or protected species.
