Alessandro Paletto, CREA - Council for Agricultural Research and Economics, Trento (IT)

The study focuses on the analysis of stakeholders' involvement in the implementation of the Natura 2000 network in four EU members countries (Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy and Czech Republic). The study was divided in four steps: identification of a set of criteria to assess the participatory process in protected area management; stakeholder analysis; questionnaire administration to a sample of stakeholders; assessment of the participatory process. The results show that in many areas the identification of Natura 2000 sites have encountered a local opposition of different groups of stakeholders.
