Biology, conservation, and promotion of Skylark populations in subalpine and alpine zones within the Beverin-Naturpark, Switzerland

Roman Graf, Swiss Ornithological Institute, Sempach (CH)

Hardly any other region in Switzerland has a Skylark territory density as high as "Schamserberg” (covering 833 ha) within "Naturpark Beverin”. At present a land-melioration project is planned in the core area of the Schamserberg--Skylark population. Conservation strategies need to be developed. A precondition for this will be a better understanding of phenology, habitat requirements and breeding biology of this alpine Skylark population. The necessary data are delievered by a current research project, run by the Swiss Ornithological institute.
