Using an aggregated remote sensing-based habitat quality index for the identification of spatially targeted conservation measures
Barbara Riedler, University of Salzburg (AT)
To support an effective assessment of protected areas we present a composite index derived from VHR satellite imagery and LiDAR data to describe habitat quality of a Natura 2000 riparian forest site in Salzburg. The indicators Tree species composition, Horizontal structure, Vertical structure and Water regime were aggregated to a statistically sound index, highlighting cold-spots where conservation measures may be needed. Through the decomposability of the index into its underlying indicators, additionally the identification of spatially targeted and suitable conservation measures is possible.
