Zoning in spatial planning for protected areas and tourism destinations in mountain regions - challenges of the Kopaonik National Park in Serbia

Marija Maksin, Institute of Architecture and Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia, Belgrade (RS)

The innovated methodological approach is based on the combined use of integrated and planning participatory approaches in the process of developing the spatial plan for special purpose area (SPSPA) - the Kopaonik National Park and mountain tourism destination. Several scenarios were offered for the differentiation between the nature protection zones and zones with suitable ski terrains and localities for developing the tourism resorts. The planning participatory process was used to select the most suitable scenario. The compromise solution for harmonizing the zones of tourism and recreation infrastructure with stricter nature protection regime was selected.
