Ice2Water: the Idrostelvio hydrometric network

Chiara Compostella, University of Milano (IT)

Started in 2009, the Idrostelvio network aims at surveying the runoff of a selection of streams, mainly fed by snow and ice melt, within Stelvio National Park. The network is composed of 11 automatic stations, equipped with data loggers and hydrometric sensors, and powered by solar panels. Together with repeat measurements of water flow speed and discharge, and river cross sectional geometry, this has made it possible to obtain a long series of data and to estimate the flow rate of the monitored streams, sustaining the policies of water management within the park.
