National parks' store of knowledge

From bat surveys in the Hohe Tauern NP to the moss flora of Austria to the GEO Day of Biodiversity: the Austrian national parks are not just about relaxation and recreation areas in stunning landscapes and natural areas, but are also hotspots of knowledge about the nature and culture of the region, mainly through research and conservation projects, but also via the daily work of national park administrations.

A project was undertaken in 2013 by eight national park administrations to make this knowledge directly available at home by a mouse click on a PC: this was the start of the parcs.at data centre.

The parcs.at knowledge database is a meta-meta database (MMD) that provides information on projects, research results, publications, maps and geo-data in Austrian national parks. This web-based tool is available to all national park administrations for documentation, storage and publication of their knowledge. And the Austrian national parks are especially to the fore when it comes to research projects and data. Last but not least, the parcs.at data centre reinforces the flow of information and the collaboration between national park administrations.

In addition to metadata, the system also offers users direct access to numerous publications.
